Pretence… it’s one of a kind. It exhibits different realms
of possibilities and forms. It is endless. Everything you see around you is
nothing more than pretence. Whether it’s a kid covered in make up or a
celebrity with a smile… it is all a sham. People wear a mask everyday… every
time. Who are we? What are we? It takes a long time to figure that out and by
the time we have it figured out, we’re already a different person. The choices
and challenges we faced through the years of consciousness have made us believe
we are more than what we actually are. We just keep molding from one form to
another when needed. We borrow feelings and emotions which we see around us.
While growing up, our minds absorb as much as they can of what is around and at
the same time we make choices of who we want to look like or what we want to do
based on our own likes and dislikes.
If we were ourselves, our pure selves without all the filtered garbage – do you think we’d be accepted? In all my anger and hatred I’d say never! Hence, it is through pretence and enactment that we are accepted. By complying with the needs and wants of the many, we mould ourselves into the perfection that is demanded by today’s society. We start choosing role models and people we want to dress up like, look like, talk like, act like, think like… it’s the death of originality… of the once conscious mind that was intended to be free and independent of imposed thoughts and actions.
Pretence is a continuous process. We pretend to be different people at different times. We become what we wanted to and then see something else we like and the pretence starts all over again. Music, drama, TV shows, advertisements, books, etc keep altering our minds… On a turn you see a bunch of hooligans dressed up like niggers and you wonder what the fuck is wrong with those assholes. Can the same be said for a man in suit or a woman who puts more makeup than Nicki Minaj?
The truth is that no one is who they pretend to be. Everyone is confused; everyone has a vague idea of who they truly are. The vague idea arises because the real you is suppressed under the pressure of who the people around think you should be. In the end you are just a phase, a being beyond selfish desires… a being born to realize the full length of your consciousness and not to realize the expectations of others. Be free, be one and be yourself - For there is a big difference between who you are and who you pretend to be.

ReplyDeleteYou've written better stuff in the past, theoretically speaking. I like how you call it a phase. I too am convinced it is a phase. But there is freedom in submission to the idea that we actually know nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteAs a post, it feels uncooked and scattered. Bring back the class, S.
Hahahah! :P Surely :P
